Columbia River swimmers aim to make splash at state meet

In its first season as a Class 2A school, the Columbia River girls swimming team is ready to make a splash at the state meet in Federal Way this weekend.

The Chieftains have seven entries seeded in the top four in pre-meet heat sheets.

Kara Noftsker is seeded second in the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, Sydney Boyle is seeded third in the 200 individual medley, and Makena Wilcox is fourth in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly. Also, River’s 200 medley relay and 400 free relay are seeded second and third respectively.

La Center’s Hailey Grotte is seeded right behind Noftsker in the 100 free.

In the 4A meet, Heritage’s Colleen Woods is seeded sixth in the 100 butterfly. In 3A, Mountain View’s Sruthi Ravi is seeded sixth in the 100 backstroke.

Competitors will compete in preliminary heats Friday, trying to qualify for Saturday’s finals. The 4A meet has the morning sessions, 2A in the afternoon and the 3A meet has the evening session.
