Letter: America loses its meaning

By Phillip S. Parker, VANCOUVER

The time has come to turn off the torch on the Statue of Liberty. We will no longer be welcoming the world’s “tired,” “poor,” and “huddled masses, yearning to breathe free” under a Trump presidency. The American people have closed the door to immigration and opportunity for the downtrodden. The lighted lantern no longer has any meaning.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
