Community notebook: Woodland’s Cichosz crowned World’s Toughest Mudder

Woodland resident Trevor Cichosz, 30, was crowned the World’s Toughest Mudder last weekend at Lake Las Vegas in Nevada.

Cichosz was among 1,300 participants in the extreme obstacle race. Competitors were judged by how much distance they covered in a 24 hour period.

Cichosz covered 105 miles, completing the obstacle course 21 times to win the $10,000 first prize.

According the Tough Mudder website, contestants overcame obstacles such as the “well as World’s Toughest Mudder only obstacles such as The Cliff (35 foot jump into Lake Las Vegas at night) and Giant Wedgie (35 foot cargo net climb).”

Camas runners excel at Nike Cross regional

Runners from Camas High School led the way among several locals at the Nike Cross Regionals Northwest cross country race on Saturday in Boise, Idaho.

Camas was led by Class 4A state champion Yacine Guermali. The senior placed fifth, covering the 5,000 meter course in 15 minutes, 36 seconds. He qualified for the Nike XC Nationals in the process.

Camas sophomore Daniel Maton placed ninth in 15:43. Ridgefield senior Silas Griffith, who won the Class 2A state title, placed 12th in 15:48.

In the girls race, Camas junior Emma Jenkins was 16th in 18:19. Mountain View senior Savanna Craig was 37th and Skyview junior Ellen Burbank was 52nd.
