OLYMPIA — A Snohomish County drug dealer was sentenced to 32 years in prison for shooting a teen and bragging about what he called his “first confirmed kill.”
The Everett Herald reported that Charles Courtney, 25, had been convicted of first-degree murder and heroin possession in connection with the Oct. 6, 2015, death of 16-year-old Anthony Boro, a student at Mariner High School.
The victim was part of a group of young people who had gathered in the parking lot of Altia Apartments where Courtney lived. Courtney confronted the group with a .357-caliber handgun and chased them before fatally shooting the victim in the back as he ran away, according to The Herald.
Courtney’s defense attorney argued that Courtney, who had served in Iraq with the U.S. Army, was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and was reacting the way he had been trained in the military.
