With all that has gone wrong in the inner cities of Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis and Charlotte, to name a few, how is it that our government continues to fail in lifting the residents of these cities out of poverty, provide adequate housing, provide jobs, provide educational opportunities and improve the infrastructure?
Wouldn’t it be a step in the right direction if one of the candidates for president of the U.S. promised to rebuild the inner cities by pledging to fund up to $5 billion to each of the 80 major cities in the U.S., to launch the renaissance/rebirth of the inner cities. That’s $400 billion reinvested in the U.S.
On balance, when we look at the foreign aid our government provides to the international community, this is a small investment in what is needed to rebuild our inner cities. To pay for it will be the first question. But we’ve spent billions of dollars in the Middle East over the past few years, which has done nothing to stop the carnage in this region. Shouldn’t we be investing in America first?
Remember the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe after World War II? This would be the Rebuild America Plan for inner-city redevelopment.
