The city of Vancouver expects up to $1 million could be available for community development projects and housing grants next year.

Funds will be available through two programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: Community Development Block Grants and the HOME Investment Partnership Program.

The programs help pay for projects that benefit the city’s low- and moderate-income areas and families. Among other things, they are designed to revitalize neighborhoods, build affordable housing or administer rental assistance programs. Local governments and nonprofit organizations can apply.

City staff will hold a two-hour workshop 8:30 a.m. at Oct. 18 at City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St., Vancouver.

Applications will be available Oct. 14 at www.cityofvancouver.us/cdbg. Pre-applications are due before 5 p.m. Nov. 17 and final applications are due 5 p.m. Jan. 11, 2017. Final funding decisions rest with the Vancouver council, who will decide May 2017.
