OREGON CITY, Ore. — A man who worked as a counselor and track coach at a high school just south of Portland is facing charges after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.

KATU-TV reports that the former Rex Putnam High School employee turned himself in to Oregon City police Monday. He was indicted on second-degree sexual abuse charges last month.

Authorities say they were alerted to the inappropriate relationship between the 38-year-old suspect and the student in 2014.

He was placed on administrative leave and later stopped working for the district.

The North Clackamas School District issued parents a letter about the indictment this week.
