What started out as a “play fight” turned into much more after a man allegedly brandished a machete at a group of people Saturday night at a Vancouver residence, court records show.

Triple-E S. Eram, 32, of Portland appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of first-degree assault. The alleged victim, identified in court records as 42-year-old Justin Wasberg, is facing an allegation of provoking an assault.

Eram, Wasberg and others were play fighting in a garage in the 2400 block of Neals Lane when an unknown male shocked Wasberg with a device. Eram and others further assaulted Wasberg, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Two women heard the assault and came to help. Eram allegedly grabbed a machete and swung it at Wasberg and the women, stating, “I’m going to kill you,” the affidavit said.

Eram told police that Wasberg had attempted to fight him and bit his ear. He denied assaulting and threatening Wasberg or anyone else, court records said.

Eram’s bail was set at $25,000, and he will be arraigned Nov. 4. It appears Wasberg posted $500 bail and was released from the Clark County Jail on Monday.
