Letter: I-1433 would boost economy

What kind of nation — indeed, what kind of people — would not support workers’ ability to take time off in the pursuit of safety and security for themselves and their children? Initiative 1433 codifies a system that will allow Washington workers to earn safe and sick leave proportional to the number of hours they work. Workers can then use said accrued time to safely take time off without the fear of losing their jobs or not making enough to make ends meet.

From an economic perspective, the positive impacts that would result from the implementation of Initiative 1433 are too numerous to fully explore here, but include a well-documented increase in over-arching productivity and a substantially increased rate of worker retention. Initiative 1433 will mean a healthier, more productive economy for all Washingtonians, including small business owners. Vote yes this Nov. 8 on Initiative 1433 for a stronger, more productive economy for all Washingtonians.
