Recreational burn ban is lifted countywide

A recreational burning ban in Clark County has been lifted, though a ban on land clearing and open burns remains in place.

Clark County Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway made the announcement on Friday, saying that the lift was effective immediately. The same ban was also lifted in Camas and Washougal.

Similarly, the state Department of Natural Resources has lifted its recreational fire ban on state protected lands west of the Cascade Region. Those fires, however, are required to be in approved fire pits within designated campgrounds.

Other fires on state land are prohibited through the end of September.

“Labor Day weekend campers might not like the rain, but it has helped improve what have been dangerously dry conditions throughout the region,” Dunaway said in a press release. “Still, remember that self-contained camp stoves are a safe, easy alternative to recreational fires.”

The ban on land clearing and residential burning in the county remains in place through at least Sept. 30.

To find out if that ban remains in place into October, contact the fire marshal’s office at 360-397-2186.
