Humane Society cats adopted at discount

Washougal — Twenty cats from the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society are up for adoption this month at a discounted fee of $25.

These are special needs cats that are more difficult to house, said Ami Prevec, the manager of the Washougal-based cat shelter. One cat is deaf, another has three legs, some take medications and others are more introverted cats having trouble finding a new home.

Once adopted, though, Prevec said, these cats “will pay that back with love.”

The Humane Society is calling these cats MVPs, or Most Valuable Pets, looking for their Most Valuable Person. All cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and receive parasite control.

To put on this adoption special, the Humane Society partnered with Best Friends Animal Society, a national nonprofit operating a sanctuary for homeless animals along with adoption, educational and spay/neuter programs.

The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, a no-kill animal shelter at 2675 S. Index St. in Washougal, currently has about 50 cats in its care and another 50 cats in foster care. Visit www.wcghs.org for more information.
