COUPEVILLE — Island County commissioners have voted to settle two lawsuits connected to a massive 2013 landslide for $1.5 million.

The Daily Herald reports that more than 65 Central Whidbey homeowners affected by the slide will split the sum, which will be paid by the Washington Counties Risk Pool. Island County has also agreed to rebuild a portion of a road that was destroyed by the landslide.

As part of the settlement the county has admitted no liability or fault.

The Central Whidbey landslide on March 27, 2013 moved an estimated 5.3 million cubic feet of earth, a house and a small wooded area in a matter of moments. No one was injured in the slide but many properties were damaged.
