SPOKANE — Two people were seriously injured when they got out of their car to move a deer carcass off the road and were hit by another vehicle.

The Spokesman-Review reports that a car was on Interstate 90 in west Spokane County at about 5 a.m. Thursday when it hit a deer.

The two people in that car got out to move the carcass when they were struck.

The Washington State Patrol says both people were seriously injured. One was taken to the hospital by helicopter and the other by ambulance.

Westbound lanes of I-90 were closed following the crash. One lane reopened about 6:45 a.m.
