Parkrose Hardware is slated to open its third Clark County store, and a second new location in less than a year, at the site of the old Sports Authority in Hazel Dell Marketplace, developers said Wednesday.

Parkrose Hardware will open the 35,000-square-foot store on March 1. It will take over the space vacated by the former sporting goods chain.

C.E. John Co., the Vancouver-based firm that owns the shopping center, called the deal “exciting” in a news release.

“Parkrose is well-known as a high-quality hardware store housing over 55,000 items with thousands of additional items available through online ordering,” according to the statement.

Parkrose Hardware’s district manager, Michael Nelson, declined to comment. Larry Dortmund, an executive with C.E. John Co., said the agreement was signed Monday through Parkrose Hardware’s parent company, Tennessee-based Central Network Retail Group.

Landing the hardware retailer is the latest catch for C.E. John, which is in the process of spending $20 million to revitalize the 1970s-era shopping center west of Interstate 5 and north of Northeast 78th Street.

Another new tenant, Marshalls, opened this month. Farrar’s Bistro, Mod Pizza, MUV Fitness, Legacy-GoHealth Urgent Care and Twin Star Credit Union are set to open next spring.

“We’re definitely making a concerted effort to transform the center and make it a community hub for the Vancouver and Hazel Dell areas,” Dortmund said.

In March, Parkrose Hardware opened its second Vancouver store, a 16,000-square-foot space at The Mill shopping center on East Mill Plain Boulevard at Garrison Road. At its grand opening, Nelson told The Columbian that the store’s owners were “actively seeking new locations” and that it was “all about the real estate.”

It appears it only took a few months to find the right spot, after Sports Authority shuttered all of its 460 stores nationwide this year.

Parkrose Hardware was founded in Portland by Bob and Gloria Ableidinger more than  50 years ago. It was acquired by Central Network Retail Group in 2014. Its other Vancouver location is at 16509 S.E. First Ave. and its flagship store is located at 10625 N.E. Sandy Blvd. in Portland.
