Community sports notebook: Prairie equestrian team wins district title

The Prairie High equestrian team won the District 4 championship for medium schools.

Members include Rachael Matson, Taylor Adams, Emma Haynie, coach McKenzie Hudson, Danielle Haner, Janessa Long, Aysha Long, Reese Black, Alaina Thomas, Ariel Griffith, Klair Thomas, and Josie Olson.

Coaches are Sarah Mckinzie, Pennie King-Plowman, and Mark Plowman.

Prairie won gold medals in eight events at district.

Janessa Long won in reining; Aysha Long won hunt seat, trail equitation and stock seat; Adams won in driving; and Klair Thomas won in-hand trail. Prairie won drill and Canadian flags as well.

Dolezal fastest in Esther Short 5K

Eric Dolezal of Vancouver won the Esther Short 5K run on Saturday with a time of 18 minutes, 18 seconds.

Zara Lukens of Vancouver was the top female finisher. She placed fourth overall in 20:48.

The next event on the Clark County Running Club calendar is the Heritage Trail 3- and 7-mile run at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8.

The race starts on east end by the boat ramp and runs out along Lacamas Lake.

Other April runs include the Lacamas Lake 5-mile Trail Run on April 15, the Vancouver Lake 3-mile run on April 19 and the Ellen David 3- and 4.5-mile run on April 25.

Blooms to Brews races set for Sunday

It’s not too late to sign up for Sunday’s Blooms to Brews Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon and 10K run/walk in Woodland.

The full marathon and four-person relay begins at 7:30 p.m., the half marathon at 7:40 a.m., and the 10K at 7:50 a.m.

Races begin and end at Horseshoe Lake. It is a USATF certified marathon and a Boston Marathon qualifier.

After-school athletic programs offered

QuickStart Sports is offering a variety of after-school athletic programs in April around the area for all ages.

Activities include basketball, flag football, and soccer and take place a schools in Battle Ground, Hockinson, Ridgefield, La Center, Washougal and the Evergreen School District.

Most activities start next week.

Pickleball events taking registrations

The Columbia River Pickleball Club is sponsoring two events this summer, which players can register for now.

The Lewis & Clark Super Senior Shootout for ages 60 and over is scheduled for June 20-22 at Hathaway Park in Washougal.

There will be age group singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Fee is $40 if registered by June 1.

The Rivers Edge Dinosaur Doubles is June 24-25, also at Hathaway Park.

This is a partners combined age doubles tournament, open to anyone ages 12 and up. Fee is $35 if registered by June 3.
