Letter: Why not build a tunnel?

By Bob Harper, VANCOUVER

A thought regarding the best way to cross the Columbia River at I-5:

The folks in Seattle have worked the bugs out of “Bertha.” Rather than let her rust, consider replacing the I-5 Bridge with a tunnel. The entrance could be somewhere around Delta Park or even further south on the Oregon side, and around Fourth Plain or a bit north on this side. The existing roadway could be preserved up to the river’s edge to serve local traffic. Pearson Field would be preserved, and seeing the Columbia flowing freely would be a magnificent sight.

How about it, Powers That Be?
