Letter: Protect Ridgefield refuge

By Bj Babcock, Ridgefield

I nearly spit out my coffee when reading Bob Buker’s April 19 letter “Support freeway on west side,” regarding a replacement bridge west of Vancouver Lake rather than the current location of the Interstate 5 Bridge. He stated, “Now, you may have noticed that my plan calls for building a road along the east edge of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. This route would increase the number of voters who would see this national treasure.”

There will be no treasure if a highway desecrates the refuge. It is absurd and the last thing the local wildlife population needs. Let those people, instead, visit our community and hike into the refuge or drive through the River S unit. It is, indeed, a treasure that must not be ruined. Is nothing sacred?
