The Clark County Fair by night

As the sun begins to set and the breeze blows away the day’s heat, the Clark County Fair takes on a new, intimate tone.

Animals are bedded down, and the noise from the arena fades. The darkness falls.

Now comes the carnival’s magic hour.

The air smells of spun sugar and hickory smoke from the day’s last grilled turkey leg. Heavy metal music pulses from the thrill rides, along with a cacophony of voices punctuated with screams.

Thousands of colored lights transform what was a grassy field and a macadam parking lot into an ethereal evening.
