The eclipse was fantastic. Now we are on to the last lazy days of summer. We expected some patchy low clouds for the early morning hours Monday, but winds aloft during overnight turned from the northeast and kept the marine clouds at bay.
I watched the eclipse on the Long Beach Peninsula about four miles north of Ocean Park. It was foggy at 7 a.m. As the sun rose, the fog dissipated. At eclipse time, it was clear as a bell. Although from my view, I only saw 96 percent totality.
Several things happened at its peak. It did get considerably darker outside. The temperature dropped from 59 to 53. And the fog rolled back in from the ocean waters. A reversal in a manner of minutes.
Afterward, the sun was once again bright and the fog burned off quickly.
It was a gorgeous day for the big kite festival in Long Beach. I watched for some time a variety of kites — what a show!
