Letter: Use cargo planes to fight fires

By William C. Mauck, Vancouver

The U.S. Forest Service is asking for more money to fight fires, which they do not need. The Air Force should transfer a few cargo planes, which are sitting in the desert, and outfit them to fight fires. As soon as a fire starts, send up a few of them and put it out, or contain it.

Why has this not been checked out? I understand that some want the forest to burn, but do they want people and their property to burn, also? I know this could work.
