Girls basketball: La Center 49, Washougal 33

Taylor Mills needed 13 points to hit the career 1,000 mark.

The La Center senior forward surpassed it in the third quarter of the Wildcats’ 49-33 win over Washougal at La Center on Monday night.

Mills finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on her record-setting night.

Washougal got out to a hot start, leading 17-8 after one quarter.

But Panthers standout Beyonce Bea was held to two points in the second half, which coach Herm VanWeerdhuizen credited to defense by Whitley Seter.

“We battled back with our defense,” VanWeerdhuizen said.

La Center outscored Washougal 31-12 in the second half.

Whitley had eight rebounds, six steals and four assists.
