The story “Dogs in prison locked up, but with lots of love,” about the Larch Corrections Center inmates taking care of the dogs from the Humane Society, told about a great program (Jan. 2, The Columbian). I believe it helps the inmates connect personally and to be able to start over, as do the dogs.
Although the dogs are “locked up,” like the inmates, they are cared for and loved. The inmates’ stories are touching, also. I wish there were more programs like this in other corrections centers. The Columbian video helps us connect to the inmates’ and dogs’ stories, too. Although all the dogs may not be in perfect condition, that is overlooked by the inmates because of their bond with each other.
This story has impacted my life and perspective. I hope this rises and spreads to other facilities, not only for the inmates, but also for the dogs.
