Washougal – Washougal Councilwoman Jennifer McDaniel announced in a city council meeting Monday that she is leaving the city council. Her resignation is effective Jan. 31.

In a Facebook post, McDaniel wrote she is moving to Camas at the end of the month.

McDaniel joined the council in 2008 and was re-elected to Position No. 5 in 2015. Her current term ran through 2019. She also served on the finance committee and is the Regional Transportation alternate representative and liaison to the Washougal School Board.

Applications to fill Position No. 5 are due by 5 p.m. Jan 31. The council will interview potential candidates Feb. 7, and an appointment might occur at a special meeting that same day. Due to the timing of this mid-term vacancy, the position will be part of the 2017 primary and general election cycle, so the person appointed to the position will serve until the results of the November general election are certified. The person who wins that election will serve through the current term, which ends in 2019.

The application packet can be picked up at City Hall, 1701 C St., Washougal, or downloaded from www.cityofwashougal.us. Completed application packets should be addressed to Jennifer Forsberg, city clerk, at Washougal City Hall 1701 C St., Washougal, WA, 98671.
