NEW YORK — Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, who recently turned 70, says she is in the ‘third act’ of her career, and is focusing on philanthropy and women’s issues.

Her latest project is the Statue of Liberty, where she is heading fundraising efforts for a new museum on Liberty Island.

The goal is to raise $100 million for the project, which is slated to open in 2019. Von Furstenberg has already raised $74 million in a year and a half, according to the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation.
