Minor League baseball update No. 5 on Clark County athletes through games of July 15, 2017:

Triple-A

Jeff Ames (Skyview HS), Durham Bulls (International League, Tampa Bay Rays)
Position: RHP
Season stats: 0-1, 3.40 ERA, 29 games, 2/2 saves/opportunities, 42.1 IP, 54 Ks, 26 BB, 1.37 WHIP
Recent highlights: Pitched 1.1 innings of relief on July 14 with two strikeouts and a walk in a 10-inning loss at Norfolk. Assigned to Single-A short season Hudson Valley Renegades (New York-Penn League) on July 15.

Double-A

Taylor Ard (Prairie HS), Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Southern League, Miami Marlins)
Position: 1B

Recent highlights: Hit a lead-off double in the bottom of the ninth and eventually scored winning run on a wild pitch to beat Biloxi 4-3 on July 11.

Recent highlights: Broke out of an 0-for-12 slump by going 3 for 4 with a home run in a 3-1 loss to Birmingham on July 14.

Recent highlights: Started against Jacksonville on July 11, pitched 3.2 innings, give up one run on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Recent highlights: Picked up his second save with Winston-Salem and third save of the season in a 3-2 victory at Myrtle Beach on July 13. Pitched the last two innings, retiring all six batters he faces with one strikeout.

Recent highlights: Took a loss against Winston-Salem on July 14, but did strike out four batters in two innings.

Recent highlights: Has been on the 7-day disabled list since July 3, a day after getting hit by a pitch.

Rookie

Brady Whalen (Union HS), Johnson City Cardinals (Appalachian League, St. Louis Cardinals)
Position: INF
Season stats: 18 games, .288 BA, 4 2B, 1 HR, 9 RBI, .288 OBP, .250 SLG, 2 SB
Recent highlights: Hit first home run of the season on July 14 against Bristol Pirates, had two RBI in that game. Knocked in two more runs on July 15 at Kingsport (Mets). Also went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI on July 10 at Elizabethton (Twins).

Seaver Whalen (Union HS), Princeton Rays (Appalachian League, Tampa Bay Rays)

Recent highlights: Went 2 for 4 with an RBI at Blu on July 9 at Bluefield Blue Jays, and collected his second double of the season at Bristol on July 15.

Recent highlights: Picked up first professional victory on July 9, throwing one inning of relief in a 2-1 win at Elizabethton Twins. Followed that up by throwing three innings with three strikeouts at Bristol.
