Five Corners — Seton Catholic High School’s Aidan Ryan received the Prudential Insurance Spirit of Community bronze medal for his efforts to alleviate child hunger in Clark County through his “40 Days of Giving Campaign,” in which he educated students about the poverty that exists locally.

Ryan spent his weekends collecting food door to door and speaking to church congregations. After school, he went around to local businesses to solicit donations along with friends Emma Cowger and Ricky Torres.

After the 40 days was up, he and his friends spoke to more than 1,200 students and 4,000 parishioners, and they collected hundreds of new jackets, shoes and backpacks for students in need, 6,574 pounds of food and donations totaling $67,814.76 for the Clark County Food Bank and St. Vincent dePaul, enough to provide 270,000 meals for people in need.

“This project was important to me because I was able to overcome people’s indifference toward the homeless and inspired their willingness to alleviate hunger in our own community,” Ryan said in a release.
