Clark County — Local Rotary clubs looked to bring some peace to Clark County recently when they planted Peace Poles at various locations.

A Peace Pole is an internationally recognized symbol and reminder that peace is possible, and displays the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in various languages.

The Rotary Club of Vancouver dedicated a Peace Pole at Clark College during the Sakura Festival on April 13, with the message written in English, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Ukrainian and Japanese. On April 21, a Peace Pole was dedicated at the Vancouver Community Library with the message written in English, Russian, Spanish and Chinese.

The Lewis River Rotary Club of Battle Ground, along with the Jubitz Family Foundation, dedicated three Peace Poles on April 21st: one at the Battle Ground Library, one at the Center for Agricultural Sciences and Environmental Education botanical garden and at the Rocksolid Community Teen Center.

“With so much conflict around us, we hope these Peace Poles will cause people to take pause and contemplate what they can do to help make this a more peaceful world, as peace begins with each of us,” Lewis River Rotary President Kathleen Hensch-Fleming said in a release from the organization.
