Letter: GOP health care is dangerous

Saying the House passage of the American Health Care Act is “irresponsible” is putting it mildly (“In Our View: Health Bill Irresponsible,” May 7). Callous and dangerous would be my description. As a doctor at a local community health center, I know the cost this bill will have on human lives and our community. In some cases the results will be deadly.

Rep. Herrera Beutler deserves credit for standing up against this bill in the face of pressure from House leadership and the president. With her “no” vote she pointed to the harm it would cause vulnerable children. In reality, it would hurt vulnerable people of all ages, including low-income adults and people with pre-existing conditions. Tens of thousands of these people in Clark County have been benefiting from Obamacare and the expansion of Medicaid over the past several years. While the Senate takes up the debate, we must speak up about those success stories and how this bill would undo them.
