Letter: High school protests are wrong

By Lenny Hendricks, VANCOUVER

The Sports section’s front-page story on Oct. 1, “Protests stir emotions,” said that local high school football players raised their fists during the national anthem.

In response to the NFL protest, I choose to exercise my freedom of speech by not watching or participating. No big deal.

With high school students, I can only express my protest in words. School athletes, management and staff disrespecting the national anthem and disrespecting our flag is wrong.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
