Clark County residents dropped off nearly 3,500 pounds of unwanted medications during a four-hour event Saturday.

Volunteers and local law enforcement were set up at four locations across Clark County for the drug take-back event. During the event, 1,165 people dropped off 3,459 pounds of medications. Volunteers also collected sharps or needles for safe disposal.

The busiest drop site was the Kaiser Permanente Cascade Park Medical Office, where 518 people handed over 1,344 pounds of pills. All pills will be transported by the Drug Enforcement Administration for incineration.

A similar event in April collected more than 2,800 pounds of medications from nearly 1,000 participants.

Unwanted medications also can be disposed of at several collection sites across Clark County throughout the year. More information is available by searching “medications” on the county recycling website, www.RecyclingA-Z.com.
