W.F. West used a balanced attack to spoil Ridgefield’s home opener, as the Bearcats downed the Spudders, 33-13, on Friday night.

The Bearcats got a pair of first-half touchdown runs from senior running back Ka’lmi Henry and held a 26-0 lead at the break. Senior quarterback Nole Wollan extended the lead to 33-0 with a 70-yard rushing touchdown on W.F. West’s first series of the second half, essentially dashing any hopes of a Ridgefield comeback.

Coming off a dominating 41-0 season opening victory over Castle Rock, the Spudders had trouble moving the ball against W.F. West’s defense for the majority of the game. Sophomore running back Hunter Abrams provided a spark in the second half, leading Ridgefield with 83 yards on seven carries and returning a fumble 49 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Jeremy Martin, filling in at quarterback for the injured Dawson Lieurance, accounted for the other Ridgefield score, punching in a nine-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
