Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3690.

• FISH of Vancouver and FISH of Orchards need volunteers to help with food bank tasks.

• Friends of the Carpenter seeks volunteers to welcome guests, answer phones and do other clerical duties. Shifts are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

• Humane Society for Southwest Washington’s ReTails Thrift Store is looking for volunteers to sort donations, set out merchandise and assist customers. Orientation for new volunteers is at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays.

• Salvation Army needs helpers in the food room and to ride along in the bread truck, to load and unload donations. Volunteers must be able to lift 10 pounds, and get in and out of the truck. Shifts are 7 a.m. to noon weekdays.

• Naturescaping of SW Washington in Brush Prairie seeks volunteers to keep the demonstration gardens looking their best. Help with weeding, planting, trimming, hauling and digging.

• North County Community Food Bank in Battle Ground is looking for volunteers to drive, stock shelves or assist clients.

Downtown Camas Association seeks volunteers to help spruce up Camas in honor of Earth Day. Work starts at 1 p.m.; Journey Community Church invites volunteers to come for a grilled burger or hot dog lunch at 12:30 p.m. Meet in front of Journey, at 304 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas, and bring shovels, spades, buckets, wheelbarrows and gloves, if available. Youth organizations wishing to help should contact Jan Carter at events@downtowncamas.com

Hazel Dell School and Community Garden seeks gardeners for its backpack program. Tour the garden and determine which crops to grow at an organizational meeting on April 22. Stop in between 1 and 3 p.m. Volunteers grow, maintain and harvest produce for school children who need weekend food, and help at the garden two or three times per month through October. Urban Abundance seeks help mulching fruit trees 9 a.m. to noon April 22 at Foley Community Orchard, 12018 N.W. 21st Ave., Vancouver. Volunteers will refresh sheet mulch around the trees and, if available, bring their own shovels, rock rakes, wheelbarrows, gloves and a water bottle. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult or have a signed waiver. There are no restrooms on-site, and volunteers should dress for the weather.
