Corvallis man get 8 years for attack on woman at courthouse

CORVALLIS, Ore. — A Corvallis man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for beating a woman with a large wooden dowel outside the Benton County Courthouse.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that Benton County Judge Locke Williams cited Eric Patterson’s lack of remorse for last September’s “startling and vicious attack.”

Patterson represented himself at a trial last week in which he was convicted of assault, disorderly conduct and unlawful use of a weapon.

At Monday’s sentencing, Patterson repeatedly talked over the judge and prosecutor while arguing for a light sentence. He responded to the punishment he received with a profanity-laced tirade.

The judge told him to watch his language because there were children present.

When Patterson said he didn’t care, the judge replied: “I know you don’t. That’s why you’re going to prison for 100 months.”
