Government contractor says Hillsboro layoffs coming

PORTLAND — Vectrus Corp., a government contractor based in Colorado, says it will lay off 54 Hillsboro employees in April. However, an employee familiar with the process says the workers will likely find jobs with a new contractor.

Vectrus notified state officials of the pending cuts this week. It did not explain why it will lay off the workers or say whether it will continue to operate its facility on Northwest Evergreen Parkway after the layoffs. Vectrus did not immediately respond to messages seeking more information.

The company says it provides facilities, logistics, technology and communications networking services to the U.S. government at facilities around the world. It had 5,600 employees at the end of 2016.

A Vectrus employee familiar with the situation, who asked not to be identified talking about his employer, said workers expect another company will pick up the government contract with the federal agency they are serving. He said Hillsboro workers expect that company will hire them to do the information technology work they had been doing at Vectrus.
