Battle Ground — Battle Ground High School senior Laney Pham and sophomore Sandra Fachiol tied in the school’s eighth annual Poetry Out Loud competition, held on Dec. 13.

Pham recited “Beautiful Wreckage” by W.D. Ehrhart, and Fachiol performed “Mr. Darcy” by Victoria Chang.

Both winners will compete at the regional competition on Jan. 30.

Pham made it all the way to the state competition last year. Senior Jack Harvison recited “Himself” by Thomas P. Lynch and placed third.

For the competition, students memorize classic or modern poems and recite in front of a panel of judges.
