Letter: Herrera Beutler not doing her job

Where is Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler? Where is her voice against the very real (and very true) threat to U.S. democracy posed by Russian influence, the sexual misconduct of our leaders, the opioid crisis, the separation of families by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and pervasive corruption across the administration? What has she done for this district other than silently stand by as a party of many becomes a party of one, as loyalty to President Trump trumps loyalty to America?

I voted for her as an agent of change, but when we need her the most, she does nothing as the president attacks the institutions that undergird our democracy. This Republican-led Congress has abdicated its responsibility to legislate. Instead of passing budgets, drafting immigration laws, or reforming health care, it focuses on getting more white men in the federal courts while quivering at the threat of a 5 a.m. tweet from a man so desperate for his father’s love that he’s willing to burn the country down to get it.
