A Vancouver hiker died due to injuries from after falling 100 feet at Panther Creek Falls, north of Carson, on Friday night.

Leslie N. Mar, 23, was hiking with a partner as they neared their destination, a ledge at Panther Creek Falls, at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Friday. Mar’s hiking partner turned and saw her slip and fall, according to witnesses who spoke with the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

A Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer was notified and responded to the area with Skamania County fire fighters, sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel. The law enforcement officer contacted a witness, found the fallen hiker and immediately began lifesaving measures. But the hiker, Mar, could not be resuscitated, and died of injuries sustained in the 100-foot fall, according to a statement from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the rugged location and darkness coming on, Mar’s body was recovered on Saturday morning by members of Clark County Search and Rescue and a Skamania County EMS Ropes team. An autopsy will be conducted by the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office in Vancouver.
