A 46-year-old Washougal man totaled a newer Ford Mustang in a rollover crash Sunday night on state Highway 14, according to Washington State Patrol.

Robert S. Herington was eastbound on the highway, behind the wheel of a blue 2017 Mustang, when he tried to pass another vehicle at Milepost 29, according to WSP accident memo.

Herington “lost control of the vehicle when merging back into the eastbound lanes,” the memo says.

The driver struck a tree on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes, and the sports car rolled. The accident memo does not say how many times the vehicle may have rolled.

Troopers say the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

No charges related to the crash have been filed.
