Letter: Trump jeopardizes way of life

Daily our president unabashedly lies, creating continuing chaos that obfuscates the actions and behavior of his administration and surrogates. We forego political discussions with family and friends because we think that we no longer agree on basic values and facts.

President Trump, his administration, and the feckless Republican Congress deny that our country’s electoral process has been attacked by Russia. This should be priority 1: investigate how and what happened, who was involved and, most importantly, what we do to stop these attacks. The denials diminish our institutions and constitution.

Our way of life is jeopardized when the president acts and believes that he is above the law. This is unacceptable. Consider who represents you, learn about them, and hold them accountable (vote them out if needed). Our egocentric president seeks to separate us in pursuit of his own aggrandizement.

We are not a country that separates children from parents and manhandles the disabled. We must not participate in this “othering.” We all are human beings — one species, which must live together on one planet. This is survival, not idle idealism. Listen, educate yourself, evaluate your information bubble, do what you can, and encourage those around you to do the same.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
