The Vancouver Police Department has teamed up with Crime Stoppers in asking for the public’s help in solving the homicide of an 83-year-old Vancouver security guard.

Benjamin O. Lyons was found dead Monday in the 2800 block of Southeast Columbia Way, an area south of state Highway 14 near the site of the former Kaiser Shipyard. Lyons was making a routine patrol of the industrial area as part of his overnight security job.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday that the Vancouver man died of multiple sharp and blunt force injuries.

“Detectives from the Vancouver Police Major Crime Unit are investigating and are asking anyone who may have information related to this homicide to contact Crime Stoppers of Oregon,” according to a press release from Crime Stoppers, which offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest in any unsolved homicide.

Information found on social media such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube should also be shared with investigators, authorities said. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
