Letter: Unknowing pawns in the game

By Michael Cortney, VANCOUVER

In his letter to the editor (“Consider role of video games,” March 2) William Schweers believes video games are the reason for mass shooting.

Aristotle suggested that man taking four hours a day and simply playing was just as important as eight hours of sleep. I have always loved video games because the world is truly a stage and I am an actor, and with a little bit of luck that carries over into the real world. I’m sure Aristotle would tell you games are a great place to put our negative energy. I think that is why games like Monopoly and Risk are fun. It is ludicrous to blame greed on Monopoly or war on people who play Risk.

Today, we have people who listen to Fox News every day. They go on the internet, and they see what they want to see. They block anybody, even family, if they have a different opinion than them. Fox News sets the agenda, the president tweets it, the internet vilifies it, the Russians put special emphasis on it, and then they are right where Fox News wants them to be: unknowing pawns in their video game.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
