Letter: Clean up Vancouver Land Bridge

By Arnold G. Barton, Vancouver
Published: March 11, 2018, 6:00am

Every time I drive west on state Highway 14 past the Vancouver Land Bridge designed by Maya Lin, I’m embarrassed at the condition of the concrete. The design is great but the condition and appearance of the structure is despicable. It appears that no one cares or maintains the concrete walls. Even power washing would improve the looks and brighten it up.

As an architect, I’ve come across products that can brighten and protect concrete surfaces. I recommend that the surfaces are first power washed to get rid of all the black ugly stuff. Then the walls should be painted with a two-part epoxy material called Ply On. It can be tinted to match the color on the walls or tinted to another color. Any reputable painting contractor should be able to do the work.

I hope this letter will cause someone to act and clean up the crossing.
