The universal theme at the center of “Pippin” is a desire to be unique.

Perhaps no one understands that search better than teenagers, so it’s a perfect fit when Prairie High School students are the voices in the production about a boy named Pippin, who joins a performance troupe in search of fulfillment, and participates in the group’s big finale. The show includes cool tricks and dances. Performances run at 1 p.m. today and March 24; and 7 p.m. today, March 23 and 24 at Prairie High School, 11311 N.E. 119th St. Vancouver; $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for students. prairiedramaclub.com

Avoid the beer on St. Patrick’s Day weekend and run or walk in the Portland Shamrock Run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, 98 S.W. Naito Parkway, Portland; $15 to $95. Choose your distance: 5K, 8K, 15K, half-marathon, a 4-mile Shamrock Stride Walk or a 1K Blazers Leprechaun Lap for kids. Widmer Brothers has a beer garden for adults if you don’t want the weekend to end. Complimentary hot soup and entertainment for everyone. motivrunning.com/shamrock-run-portland

See what Legos look like when professionals play around with them. The Bricks Cascade public exhibition offers that opportunity from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 25 at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland; $11 per person, $40 for a pack of four tickets, children ages 3 and younger get in free. Participate in Lego building games, view Legos made by Builders Convention participants that range from movie references to spaceships. Some sets are available to buy. www.brickscascade.com/exposition

“Schoolhouse Rock” has nothing on the Vancouver Public Schools’ staff. The Vancouver school district’s funk will be on full display for One District Under the Groove at 6 p.m. March 30 at Fort Vancouver High School, 5700 E. 18th St., Vancouver. One District is a concert benefiting students from the Vancouver school district that features district staff members playing the music, except for special appearances from musicians Sheryl Renee (Denver) and Harrison Allen (Seattle). The event is free, but meant to collect food donations for students in need. Bring cheese, crackers, cup of noodles, juice boxes, granola bars, spaghetti, canned and other nonperishable items. fort.vansd.org

As the rainy season begins to wind down, check out one more indoor exhibition at the Clark County Quilters Show on April 5, 6 and 7 at the Clark County Events Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield; $7, $12 for a three-day pass, children 12 and under get in free, $6 for parking. Peruse the quilt exhibits stocked with quilts from members of the Clark County Quilters. The featured quilter is Lynn Czaban, a national award-winning artist and quilter, who has developed a reputation for making quilts that tell a story. Czaban will teach a two-day class and participate in an artist stroll at 1 p.m. April 7. clarkcountyquilters.org/index.html

Brewfests certainly don’t disappear during the winter, but there’s just something different about a brewfest in the spring when it’s sunny. April offers up a couple early opportunities to taste the suds while surrounded by (possibly) good weather. First comes Walking Man Brewing’s Fools Fest from noon to 10 p.m. April 7 at Walking Man Brewing, 240 S.W. First St. in Stevenson; free admission, but donations are appreciated and benefit the Stevenson Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. Nearly 40 local and regional musicians will perform. There will be bubbles and games for kids, plus a beer garden for adults. The Skamania Pipers will perform a traditional “call to the community” with their bagpipes at noon. www.walkingmanbeer.com. And then on April 13 and 14, the Vancouver Spring Brewfest returns with local breweries, food, vendors and plenty of live music. The Spring Brewfest takes place from 4 to 9:30 p.m. April 13 and 1 to 9 p.m. April 14 at Esther Short Park, 605 Esther St., Vancouver; four tokens for $5. vancouverbrewfest.com
