Guess what? It’s time for Dozer Day! Today is the last day, so be sure to head out to the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds if you have budding bulldozer drivers in the family. Other heavy construction equipment and fire engines will be there as well, which means lots of cool big rigs for youngsters to enjoy.

Dozer Day always makes me think about digging in the dirt. Whether it’s a sandbox, a garden or an empty field, moving dirt around is just plain fun. And we are entering some of the best dirt-digging days of the year as the temperatures rise and the ground warms up. Knowing that there is no age limit to the feeling of satisfaction one gets from pushing fingers and toes into the earth, I offer up dirt-merry reading suggestions for both youngsters and the young at heart.

Did you know that the Washougal Community Library has a seed lending library? If you haven’t heard of a seed library before, let me introduce you to this plant-based collection. The purpose is a simple one: provide a free source of donated seeds to the community. How does it work? You borrow from a selection of vegetable and flower seeds and plant them in your garden. Once it’s time to harvest the fruit of your labors (so to speak), allow a plant or two to go to seed and return some of the seeds back to the library for others to enjoy. Brilliant! To learn more about the Washougal Seed Library and how it benefits the community, be sure to visit www.fvrl.org, click on “Hours & Locations” near the top of the page, then choose “Washougal.”
