Woodland — Smokey Bear visited Woodland Primary School to teach students the importance of fire safety and how to prevent forest fires.

He was joined by Amanda Dales, school instructor for the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service. They went over how to put our forest fires, the importance of taking everything with you when you leave a forest and what to do if you come across a forest fire.

Dales explained that the Eagle Creek Fire from the beginning of the school year was started by one teen playing with one firework, and told students that if they ever come across a forest fire, they should immediately leave the area, tell an adult and call 911.

After Dales’ lesson, Smokey came in and quizzed the students on what she taught them.
