Ridgefield High sophomore Trey Knight added to his state championship haul on Sunday by winning the Washington State High School Hammer Championships at Centralia.

Knight defended his title with a throw of 233 feet, 7 inches, which was more than 30 feet from his winning mark in 2017. It is also the national-leading mark for his age group.

Knight’s throw was 29 feet more than second-place finisher Ian Frost of Mary M. Knight High School, who went 204-10.

Dalton Lewis, a junior from Camas, placed 18th out of 29 competitors with a throw of 114-4.

In the girls hammer, Camas senior Maggie Wells placed fifth out of 32 with a distance of 135-11. Mayyi Mahama, a senior from Pullman, won with a state-meet record of 175-4.

Camas junior Riley Kankelberg was 13th (106-7), and Camas senior Morgan Kielty was 14th (106-4).

Hammer is not a WIAA-sanctioned event, so it is contested outside of the WIAA Track and Field Championships.

The Columbia River High lacrosse team finished second in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse state tournament, losing to Burlington-Edison 8-6 in the championship game on Saturday at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
