Firefighters continue coat and blanket drive

Vancouver firefighters need donated coats and blankets, especially coats in children’s sizes, as their sixth annual holiday coat drive continues.

When firefighters respond to emergency calls, they often find people who don’t have warm coats, Fire Capt. Duane Schuman said in a bulletin for the Vancouver Fire Department.

Those with clean coats and blankets to spare are asked to drop them off at the fire station at 400 E. 37th St., near the Safeway on Main Street, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Jan. 1.

Besides being given to shivering folks at emergency scenes, the coats also are given to local shelters, schools and the YWCA, the bulletin said.
