COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Organizers of the annual polar bear plunge in Coeur d’Alene expect some 500 people to brrrr-ing in 2010 with a quick dip in Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The 31st annual event is set for noon Friday at Sanders Beach, the Coeur d’Alene Press reports.

Some say that jumping into the 40-degree water has health benefits. Others say the shock to the system might not be all that beneficial.

The forecast calls for rain and snow and temperatures in the 30s.
