PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police say two young children are fine after a man stole their mother’s van while they were still inside.
Detective Mary Wheat says the woman left the keys and the children — an infant and a 2-year-old — in the van while she stopped Thursday at a southeast Portland business.
Stormy Brady tells KPTV the 30-year-old woman was only about 20 feet from her van, looking at an infant swing on the sidewalk, when suddenly there was a screech and the van drove off.
Police think the man realized a few blocks later that the children were aboard and ditched the van. Police say one of the kids was still asleep when the van was recovered.
