OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The campaign manager for an Olympia city councilman charged with three felony drug counts says Joe Hyer is resigning from the council, effective late Saturday.
Danielle Westbrook confirmed the planned resignation to The Olympian late Friday. The group People for Joe Hyer earlier sent out a statement the group said was from the councilman.
The statement attributed to Hyer says, “Recently I made a singular error in judgment that has been horribly detrimental to my family, friends and this community.” It adds, “I must leave public life and focus on my own health.”
The 37-year-old Hyer did not return calls seeking comment Friday night and the newspaper says no one answered the door at his home.
